Situated on the bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra is the city of Guwahati. It is a lovely city and is of utmost importance in terms of connectivity to the other North Eastern states. You can reach Guwahati by air or by train. It hosts the famous Kamakhya temple which is located in the Nichol Hills. One should not miss this opportunity to seek blessings from Goddesses Durga, if you are in this city. A cruise across the river Brahmaputra in the evening is a must as you can enjoy the sunset view while trying the local delicacies in the cruise. You will get a very good view of the Saraighat bridge and the smallest river island named - ''Umananda Island'' or more famously known as the ''Peacock Island'' if you take the cruise. Guwahati is a big hub for shopping and one should check the beautiful silk attires which are available in different colors and varieties. Apart from that do not miss the opportunity to taste the Assam tea. For shopping you should go to the G. S. Road, where you will find the outlets of all the top brands. The Kaziranga National Park, famous for the one horned rhinos is just 194 kms from Guwahati. One should surely go to this National Park and enjoy the superb drive amidst lush green tea gardens.
