Situated in the southernmost part of the Indian peninsula, Tamil Nadu is the eleventh largest state in India in terms of area and sixth largest in terms of population. The state shares its boundaries with Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry and maritime border with Sri Lanka. Surrounded by Indian Ocean in the South, Bay of Bengal in the east and Gulf of Mannar and Palk Strait in the southeast, the state has much to offer in terms of tourism. Tamil is the mother tongue which is one of the oldest and classical languages in the world. Home to many natural resources, Tamil Nadu has many tourism attractions like hill stations, beach resorts apart from historical buildings, religious sites, temples of Tamil architecture. The state boasts of classical art forms, music and rich literature. There are eight UNESCO World Heritage sites in Tamil Nadu for people to visit.
