Situated at an altitude of 3049 meters above sea level is the beautiful and prime ski destination of Uttarakhand named Auli.  This unexplored paradise of Uttarakhand possesses Asia’s longest cable car which is about 4 kms long and also has a chair and ski lift.

A photographers and adventurers delight Auli captures nature at its best. While skiing is the major past time, there are many scenic spots in see in this beautiful destination like the world’s highest man-made artificial lake and the training facility of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

Auli offers a 270-degree view of the Himalayas and is an amazing place to trek and explore natural beauty. The snow-covered Nanda Devi, Kamet and Mana Parbat offer, not just adequate opportunity for adventure lovers to dare and take the plunge but at the same time are a delight to be captured through a photographer’s lens. One must surely carry woolen apparels while visiting Auli.


The weather in Auli is highly unpredictable. In order to enjoy skiing one can, visit this place from end of January to beginning March.

How to Reach

Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest Airport which is about 281 kms.

The nearest rail heads are Dehradun and Rishikesh with good connectivity to Delhi and the nearby towns.

One can also reach here by road by hiring a cab or through state transport buses.

Auli is connected to Joshimath with about a 3.9 km cable car apart from 16 km long road connectivity. The lower and upper slopes are linked through a 500 meter long ski lift.

Other places close to Auli are Badrinath about 63 kms, Hemkund Sahib about 54 kms and the Valley of flowers about 54 kms.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Auli is a place for adventure lovers and offers long and clean stretches of 10-20kms snow covered mountain slopes for skiing. From the ridge there is a descent of about 500 meters spread over a stretch of 3 kms. One can see the skiers sliding down the mountain slopes with the crack of dawn until late in the evening when it gets dark, cold and chilly. During winters Auli receives heavy snowfall from time to time but there are also large numbers of days that are unusually sunny.
