Bakkhali boasts of a beautiful casuarina trees that line white sand beachfront. Here sitting quietly on the beach and capturing the various moods of the sea is most favored activity of the visitors. Catch a fantastic sunset in Bakkhali it will be a special memory for ever.

Despite being a small and isolated island, Bakkhali is quite popular with the people of Kolkata. It is an idyllic beach destination with an army of red crabs that dot the beach by hundreds and vanish as soon as one approaches them.

Weather

During the summer season, from March to May, the weather is extremely humid and uncomfortable and the temperature varies between 20°C and 41°C.

Summer months are followed by monsoon that stretches from June to September and the town experience consistent rainfall making any sightseeing and outdoor activities difficult.

Post monsoon, the natural beauty of the place can be enjoyed as the weather during this period remains pleasant and it is the best time to explore the outdoors and enjoy sightseeing.

How to Reach

The nearest airport is at Dum Dum in Kolkata. The nearest rail station is at Namkhana.

Going to Bakkhali is an adventure in itself – drive or take a bus from Kolkata to Namkhana, and then take the ferry across the river Hatania Doania, and drive or take a bus to reach.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Sightseeing in Bakkhali includes a walk on the beach from Bakkhali to Frasergunj. The rickshaw van is the only transport available locally. On these rickshaw vans one can take a trip to Henry’s Island and Watch Tower moving through the beautiful village side. One can enjoy a splendid view of entire Sunderban area on one side and on the other side the beautiful Bakkhali Beach from the Watch Tower.

A temple called Bishhalakshmi, at the end of the Bakkhali main beach, is worth seeing. Swimming is not recommended in these waters because of strong undercurrent. Just sit and relax on the beach and enjoy the cool breeze. Soak in the undisturbed tranquility of the place.
