BR Hills

BR Hills is famous for its picturesque and pristine wildlife sanctuary spread across 525 sq. km of forest covered hills. Home to magnificent elephants, sloth bears, wild boars, bison and the occasional leopard, the BRT Sanctuary is a popular getaway from Bangalore. The wild charms of the place make a great change of pace from city-life. The place is an excellent area for wildlife trekking and adventure activities. The forest cover is thick, with a wide range of flora and fauna on view.

Because of its altitude (5000 feet) it never gets really hot. A cooler time to be here is perhaps the winter period from December to March. The daytime temperatures remain pleasant throughout the year and it chances of animal sightings are also high.

The best time to visit the place would be sometime between June and November when the forests here are at the prettiest.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Here Sightseeing is not restricted to a visit to the jungle as there are various temples among other things. There is more than just the jungle. An ancient temple of Biligiri dedicated to the deity Lord Rangaswamy holds an unusual relic, large oversized sandals which the Lord is supposed to wear to explore the nearby forests. In a charming expression of beliefs, the sandals are replaced regularly by the local villagers.

The BRT Wildlife Sanctuary is also a must-visit in BR Hills. Trekking, elephant and jeep safaris are some of the outdoor activities in BR Hills that one can enjoy here. Go trekking in the forest with authorized guides or on elephant or jeep safari. Animal spotting was never such fun as in the BR Hills sanctuary.
