Daman

Daman is a union territory situated on the edge of Gujarat & Maharashtra border and is a very popular beach getaway for cities of South Gujarat. Divided in two parts viz. Nani Daman and Moti Daman, this Old Portuguese town is known for its exotic sea food and different varieties of liquor. It is a dream destination for people who love to spend their holidays in the lap of nature.

Weather

The climate of this union territory is mainly on the moderate side. The summers begin from March and last till the end of May. The highest and the lowest of temperature during the season remain in between 37° C and 26°C respectively. The month of May is seen as the hottest month in Daman. Most of the people love to go for water sports during this season.

Monsoon season arrives in the month of June and stays till the month of September. The union territory faces heavy rainfall during the monsoon season. The winters prevail during the months of November, December and January. During this season, the maximum temperature remains around 32° C whereas the minimum temperature remains around10° C.

There is no specific time to visit the city still the best time to visit Daman is from the month of October to March. People love to feel the magic of the city especially during this period.

How to Reach

Being an important travel destination of India, Daman is well-connected to other major cities by air, road and rail. The nearest domestic airport is located in the Nani Daman area. Mumbai International Airport is the nearest international airport, located at a distance of around 170 km from Daman.

Many states as well as private owned buses run to and from Daman, thereby connecting it to neighboring towns of Mumbai and Surat which are located around 170 and 110 km away respectively.

Located around 12 km away from Daman, Vapi is the nearest railway station, connecting the city to other major Indian cities.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Deveka Beach: Located at a distance of about 3 km north from Nani Daman, Deveka Beach is known for its black rocks and serene surroundings. There is a beach-side amusement park named as Deveka Amusement Park that offers joyrides, a food plaza, a large garden and an ice cream parlor. Pony and camel rides are also available.

Daman Fort: It is a place which has a great importance in this region and travelers should not miss the chance to explore the beauty of this place. The fort has a unique history which shows interesting facts about this majestic place as well as the country. The fort was built during 1535-1541 AD and stands as an evidence to the planned pact accomplished between the Portuguese and the Sultan of Gujarat.

Daman Museum: It is one of the major attractions in Daman. The Museum carries a unique story within itself. One will find various idols, wooden carvings as well as shadow clocks and Catholic Statues.
