Digha

Digha is an ideal beach destination for a fun-filled holiday.  A potent combination of sun, sea and sand makes it an ideal destination and it is neither too crowded nor commercial too. Called the Brighton of the East by Warren Hastings, The place makes for a great weekend or honeymoon destination. Digha is a serene beauty and her beautiful beach will have you coming back for more vacations here. The place is known for its panoramic sunrise and sunset views. This small town is also reputed to be a bird watcher’s paradise.

Weather

The winter months from November to March are a good time as summers from April to June can get hot and humid.

October to March are the best time for beach activities like sailing, swimming, diving and surfing and during these months’ hotels are mostly booked.

Between September and February; days are clear and bright whereas evenings are pleasant. Avoid the rainy season from July to August.

How to Reach

NSC Bose International Airport, Kolkata is the nearest airport which is about 210 km away from Digha.

There are direct trains from Kolkata or one can take a train to nearby Kharagpur, a major rail junction with several trains to and from Kolkata.

There are several bus services that run frequently from Kolkata.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

There are many places for sightseeing in Digha. The main tourist hub is the New Digha, which boasts of a science center and one of the largest marine aquariums in Asia.  Another major attraction is the Amravati Lake, which has boating facilities. A little unconventional attraction in this small town is the snake farm that is situated in close proximity to the Amravati Lake. Located at a distance of 8 Km from the city is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as the temple of Chandaneswar.

Talasari, another beach location is just 3 km away. At a distance of 14 km from Digha is the un-spoilt beach of Shankarpur. The beaches here are wide, lined with casuarinas trees and are less crowded than Digha. Shankarpur’s main attraction is the fishing harbor project.

Catch a glimpse of beautiful sunrise and begin your day. Here the sea is shallow and calm and thus the fun activities comprise of sun bathing and swimming. The beach at Digha is the widest sea beach in the world.
