Diu is small island town located at Gujarat’s southern coast. Infused with Portuguese history, Diu offers a refreshing break with its spectacular beaches and many old forts which show the true architecture of the Portuguese. There are many villages on this beach town which are famous for their tribal culture. This place is also famous for its night life as people come here to break free from the hustle and bustle of day to day life. Exotic beaches, luxury resorts and sea food has made this place a famous tourist destination for the travelers. One will not get disappointed as there is lot to explore in this place and this will be a good holiday destination.


Diu remains a bit hot and more humid in summer season as it’s a beach city. Average Temperature of this city remains 30°C-38°C. Best time to visit Diu is summer as place offers so much fun during this season. Monsoon comes early at this place as it’s near to sea and winds bring monsoon early here. Temperature of the city remains 23°C-37°C in monsoon with showers. Best time to visit Diu in monsoon is from August-October. Winters remains chilly in this city and temperature can fall to 12°C in winters. Best time to visit this city is from November-February in winters.

Diu is a beach city which remains humid for most of the time but one will surely enjoy in this city as it offers pleasant weather throughout the year. Best season to visit Diu is summer as this place has beaches and one can enjoy a lot here on sunny days.

How to Reach

When it comes to connectivity, Diu is easily accessible from other parts of the country by air, road and rail. Diu Airport connects the town to other major cities of the country by air.  Regular buses connect Diu to other major cities of the country. The nearest railway station is located at Veraval, which in turn is connected to almost all-important cities of the country.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Diu Fort: It is an Old Portuguese landmark, which was constructed between 1535 and 1541. This fort is situated right along the shoreline, which is testimony of the strategic alliance between the Sultan of Gujarat and the Portuguese. The Diu Fort is also known as the Portuguese Fort and has the Diu Jail and a lighthouse. Diu Fort was constructed on the ruins of a fortress built by the Arab Governor Malekhyaaz in 1400. The fort is situated at the end of the Fort Road and is around 29 m high. From this fort, tourists can get a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea. The fort is surrounded by the sea on three sides and is connected with a canal on the fourth side. Few canons can still be seen at the fort, which belonged to the Portuguese army.

Naida Caves: The Naida caves are located on the periphery of the Diu fort. These caves have a big network of tunnels with square hewn steps.

Sunset Point: One of the famous beaches in Diu and famous for its water sports, night life and exotic resort, this lace attracts lots of people while they are in Diu. Enjoy the exquisite sunset on this beach as the name suggests. Many other things to do on this beach include surfing, gliding, beach volley, swimming and many other water sports which are the prime Diu attractions of this place. Beautiful coastal lines and greenery around this place makes it more beautiful and provide relief to your inner self. Also enjoy the night life of this beach with music and party.

Nagoa Beach: Nagoa Beach is a popular picnic spot. It is a secluded beach, which can be reached in 20 minutes through ferry from the main town of Diu. The beach is situated in an old fishing village of Nagoa. The beach has a unique shoe-shape, which stretches over 2 km from one end to the other. This beach is suitable for various activities like swimming, water sports and camel or pony riding. Diu town is about 7 km from the Nagoa Beach and buses are available from the old bus stand to reach here.

Ghogla Beach: Ghoghla Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Diu. One can indulge in various activities here such as swimming, sunbathing, parasailing, surfing etc. This Golden sand beach undulates into the horizon while the Arabian Sea laps away at the edge as though imploring the sands to let it find its own beach.

St. Paul Church: St. Paul church is one of the famous attractions in Diu and is solely dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Immaculate Conception’. People from every origin visit this place to see the old carvings which depict some of the pages from The Holy Bible. The church was constructed around 1601-1610. The architecture of this church is Portuguese and very similar to the Bom Jesus Church of Goa. The Gothic style architecture attracts a lot of people to visit this place as it is amongst the most visited Diu Attractions of all. The most auspicious part of this church can be seen in night when it is illuminated by lights which makes this site heavenly beautiful.
