The beautiful town of Kannur is located in the state of Kerala in India and is blessed with beaches, historical and religious destinations and is a beautiful picnic site to enjoy holidays with your loved ones. It was known by its old name Cannanore (Land of God Krishna) during the British rule. The summers in Kannur are hot and generally avoided by the tourists. The month of March marks the start of summer season and it lasts till May. Temperature ranges between 23°C to 38°C during these months.

Kannur experiences monsoons between the months of June to September. These months are characterized by heavy rainfall.

The Month of December marks the start of winter season in Kannur. Temperature ranges between a comfortable 13°C to 29°C. Winters last till February in Kannur. This is one of the best seasons to visit Kannur as the place seems washed and beautiful after the rains. The temperature remains ideal to enjoy nature.

How to Reach

The nearest International Airport from Kannur is Mangalore International Airport, roughly three and half hour drive from the town. It is well connected to a spectrum of cities like Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Kozhikode, Kuwait, Mumbai and Muscat.

Kannur has its own Railway Station named as Kannur Railway Station. It is well connected to the major cities like Chennai, Pune, Delhi and Mumbai.

Arakkal Museum: Arakkal Museum is a famous place in Kannur which is located at a distance of 3 km from Kannur and is dedicated to Arakkal Family. The Museum denotes the history and religious influences of Arakkal Rajas and is a perfect tourist destination for visitors.

Ezhimala: Ezhimala is another historical tourist destination which is just 32 km from Kannur city. It is said that this place was the capital of the former Mooshika kings and served as the headquarters of the Ezhimala Radii during the control of Sang. An antique mosque is other main attraction of this site which is thronged by various tourists.

St. Angelo’s Fort: St. Angelo’s Fort is a famous destination to visit which is widely known as Kannur Kotta and Kannur Fort. The Fort is situated at a distance of 3 km from Kannur and is very popular for its huge triangular structure. It is known as the strength and beauty of Portuguese architecture. The Fort was built by Don Francisco in 1505.

Meenkunnu Beach: Meenkunnu Beach is a famous tourist place known for its scenic beauty. It is located at a distance of 9 km from Kannur. The gorgeous beach is covered with a blanket of golden sand and coconut trees and is a perfect destination to spend holidays with the loved ones.

Snake Park: Parassinikkadavu (Snake Park) is an amazing park especially meant for snake lovers in Kannur. There are 150 varieties of snakes including Monosialed Cobras, Vipers, Pit Viper, spectacled Cobras, poisonous snakes and large Pythons. Muthappan Temple is another tourist destination of this place which is located on the shores of Valapattanam River and is devoted to Lord Muthappan, one of the forms of Lord Vishnu.

Juma Masjid: Located near the Arabian Sea, in Thalassery, Juma Masjid is a 1000 year old mosque and is one of the most beautiful mosques of the district. It was founded an Arab trader. This holy place is designed in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style.
