Located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand in the midst of lush green and dense pine forests is the magnificent hill town Kausani. Situated at an altitude of 1890 meters above sea level Kausani is a natural picnic spot and gives a 300 kilometers panoramic view of the grand Himalayas. The small town has a population of only 300 people and is popularly known as the birth place of famous Hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant. It is also popular for the Baijnath group of temples, tea gardens and the ashrams. It is separated by the the towering Nanda Devi range by a low medium mountain.
The place commands a pleasant weather round the year.
How to Reach
Kausani is best reached by road. The place is about 394 kms away from Delhi and the Delhi International airport is the closest to Kausani. Cabs and state bus service is available to travel to Kausani
Beautiful small hill town of Kausani is nestled in the thick and dense pine forests. Situated atop a narrow ridge this scenic destination makes for a great picnic spot and offers some breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. One can go to this tranquil town to unwind and relax. There is also a little bit of history attached to this place as the Anashakti Ashram is the birth place of famous hindi poet Sumitra Nandan Pant and even Gandhiji stayed in the ashram in 1929 and was inspired by the beauty of Kausani.
Other key attractions around Kausani are the Baijnath temple about 19 kms away. There are 18 shrines in the temple which were built between the 9th and the 12th century.
The temple of Kot Brahmari in Tehlihaat is about 21 kms away and is dedicated to the incarnation of Goddess Durga who took the form of a wasp to kill the demon. The Goddess faces north with her back which is worshipped by the devotees.
At the confluence of Saryu and Gomti rivers about 42 kms away from Kausani is the temple of Bageshwar. The temples are strung with bells and the idols of this temple were built between the 7th and the 16th century.
