Nestled beautifully in the Western Ghats, Malshej-Ghat is situated at an elevation of around 700 m above sea level in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra. The lush greenery and the breezy weather alongside the meandering waterfalls appear as the pinnacle of beauty in the rainy season. It is a big hit among tourists seeking tranquility and natural beauty. The Flamingos is the major attraction in the region which is situated near the Monsoon lakes. The place is undeniably a heaven for tourists, trekkers and hikers. Malshej-Ghat is in fact a preferred place for adventure lovers as it offers excellent opportunities to rock climbers and trekkers.


The summers in Malshej-Ghat are hot and generally avoided by the tourists. The month of March marks the start of summer season and it lasts till May. Temperature ranges between 22°C to 40°C during these months.

Malshej-Ghat experiences monsoon between the months of June to November. Heavy rainfall is the characteristic of the season and light cotton clothes are just enough for the city weather.

The Month of December marks the start of winter season in the city. Temperature ranges between 12°C to 30°C. Winters last till February in Malshej-Ghat. The best season to visit is the winter season. The temperature remains comfortable and is apt for visiting the monuments and other places of interest too. The best months to visit are October, November, December, February and March.

The nearest International Airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, roughly three hour drive from Malshej-Ghat. It is well connected to a spectrum of cities in the country. The nearest Railway Station is Kalyan Railway Station, roughly 85 Km from Malshej-Ghat. It is well connected to many major cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad etc.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

The Ajoba Hill Fort: An attractive and famous spot which offers rock climbing and trekking activities, The Ajoba Hill Fort is a most visited place in the region. The Darkoba Peak holds its own charm and rock climbing and trekking can also be done here.

Harishchandragad Fort: Located at an elevation of 1424 m above sea level, this Fort belongs to the 6th century and has an imprinted Lord Vishnu Temple with various idols. The other wonderful attraction nearby the fort is the Buddhist Caves. The Harishchandragad Peak is also one of the popular attractions where there is a semi-circular rock wall of Konkan Kada. Many tourists and local people flock the place from all over the world to take a glimpse of the beautiful view of its greenery.

Pimpalgaon Joga Dam: Built across the Pushpavati River with the length of around 5 km, Pimpalgaon Joga Dam is the prime attractions in the city. There are various types of birds which can be seen here like Purple-moorhen, Whistling thrush, Alpine swift, Quail, Pitta, Pied crested cuckoo and Green pigeon etc.
