Mathura is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is situated on the bank of river Yamuna in the state of Uttar Pradesh. A popular pilgrimage hub in North India, Mathura has been an important financial and business center in the ancient times. It is also an important railway junction with most of the trains plying between Delhi and Agra stop in Mathura. It is believed to be the homeland and birthplace of Lord Krishna who was born in Yadu dynasty. It is considered to be an extremely sacred place in the world for the followers of Lord Krishna.
The weather in Mathura is similar to that in Delhi and Lucknow. Hot in summers and cold in winters.
How to Reach
Mathura is well connected by all means of transport – air, rail and road. The city is well connected with Delhi and Lucknow by rail transport. A rail junction, most of the South and West bound trains stop here.
With the new Noida-Agra expressway, the place is well connected by road to Delhi. It is a wonderful experience to drive on this world class highway.
Though the nearest airport is Agra – Kheria Airport, Delhi airport is the most well connected air hub for Mathura.
The key attractions of Mathura are the many temples dedicated to Lord Krishna like the Birla Temple, Dwarkadheesh Temple, Krishna Janam Bhoomi, Giriraj Temple and many more. There is also the famous Refinery and the Old fort of King Kans.
One can enjoy boating in the holy river Yamuna and visit the Durvasa Rishi temple and the Hansiya Rani ghat. There is also a Government Museum which houses many sculptures from the Gupta period and a great collection of Kushana art.
