Nestled in the Satpura ranges in the midst of Sal, Wild Bamboo and Jamun forests, Pachmarhi is one of the most beautiful and lush green hill station of Madhya Pradesh. This magnificent and serene destination is a great combination of nature’s delight and man-made archeological treasure house. The Mahadev hills house rock paintings as old as 10,000 years in the cave shelters. The place has an old world Victorian charm to it which is maintained by the Army owing to the presence of their Education Corps headquarters. Pachmarhi is all about relaxation and unwinding.
The weather remains extremely cool and pleasant with the tourists visiting this natural retreat almost round the year.
How to Reach
Pachmarhi is easily accessible from both rail and road transport from the state capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. It is extremely close from both Jabalpur and Itarasi and one can reach within a span of 2 hours from either of these places. It is also accessible form Nagpur in Maharashtra. It takes about eight hours to reach Pachmarhi from Nagpur by road.
Pachmarhi boasts of lots of cave paintings in the forests which date back to approximately 10,000 years old. The Jata Shankar Caves in Pachmarhi are considered sacred as they are popularly believed to be the place where Lord Shiva concealed himself from the wrath of Bhasmasur.
Pandava caves: These caves are believed to provide shelter to the Pandavas during their exile period. It is now a protected monument and tourists flock from all over India to see this place.
Dhoopgarh: The highest point in the Satpura range, Dhoopgarh hilltop is a beautiful spot to see marvelous sunsets and sunrises. This point can only be reached by trekking.
The Satpura National Park: It is an exclusive and pristine landscape that has been preserved primarily for the protection of flora and fauna.
While the main town is spread over an area of about 5-6 km, the rest of the area falls under the Army cantonment.
The Bee Fall is one of the most spectacular points to visit in this beautiful destination.
