A small and scenic hill town in Maharashtra, Panchgani is a popular tourist destination. Close to and just below Mahabaleshwar, the place falls on the Sahyadri mountain ranges with river Krishna flowing close by. Surrounded by five hills and named after it, Panchgani is situated at 1293 meters. The route to reach here is extremely scenic with incredible views of the coastal plains and river Krishna. The dense forest surrounding the place has many special species of the western plants like Silver Oak.


Panchgani has a pleasant climate round the year. The climate is cool from September to May and the best time to visit this destination. The winters are cool and summers can be a bit hot at times but is mostly pleasant. The place experiences heavy rains during the monsoons in July and August.

How to Reach

It is best to travel to Panchgani by road as it offers a very scenic view en route. The nearest railway station and airport is Pune as it is easily accessible and well connected. One can take a taxi from Pune to reach here.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Panchgani has an old world charm of the British and Parsi era. It was originally a retirement destination of the British. To get a feel of the old times, one can visit the British and Parsi homes. Trekking and adventure sports like paragliding and horseback riding are popular attractions of this hill town. There are many scenic spots with very descriptive names in Panchgani. Sydney Point, Table Land, Parsi Point, Sherbaug Theme Park, Devil’s Kitchen, Dhom Dam, Kamalgad Fort are some of the most popular points. It is an extremely popular destination for shooting of Bollywood movies.
