Panshet

Situated amongst the picturesque environs of Varasgaon Dam and Panshet Dam, Panshet is a small village and an ideal weekend getaway from both Mumbai and Pune. The well-known dam of Panshet was built in 1950s. It was built as a source of water storage however it became popular in 1961 when the dam collapsed and the water from the dam engulfed the entire city of Pune. Since then the dam has been restored and now is a well-known weekend getaway for the residents of Pune and Mumbai.

Weather

During the summer season, from March to June, the temperature can shoot up to 42°C.

Panshet receives moderate rainfall during the monsoon season, from July to September.

The best time to visit Panshet is from October to May, when the weather is conducive for sight-seeing and taking part in various water sports activities.

How to Reach

The nearest airport at Pune is 45 km from Panshet. The nearest railway station is also at Pune. Panshet is well connected from Pune by road via Khadakwasla and Sinhagad.

The view on this route is pretty scenic. Get ready to discover the ancient ruins of various forts from the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Some of the places for sightseeing in Panshet are Khadakwasla Dam and Sinhagad Fort.

Constructed over the Mutha River, Khadakwasla Dam is one of the most visited getaway destination for the residents of Pune. Located near the meeting point of two rivers Ambi and Mutha, the Khadakwasla Dam is a scenic spot situated near Khadakwasla village. The dam is ideal for family picnics and some fun.

Located at an altitude of 1316m, Sinhagad Fort is an interesting place for sightseeing in Panshet. The literal translation of Sinhagad is the ‘Lion Fortress’. Trekking enthusiasts can climb the hilltop for a magnificent view from the top. The popular fort was the summer residence of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

Various activities are also available at Panshet Water Park. Some of the activities that you can enjoy at the water park are wind surfing, kayaking, swimming, speed-boating, water scooters, and pedal boats.
