Perched at an altitude of 1789 m above the sea level, Ramgarh is a small hill station nicknamed as a Fruit Bowl of Kumaon. It is situated on the way to Mukteshwar in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. It is enriched with variety of exotic fruits grown here like peaches, apples, plums, pears, strawberries and apricots. The place is full of such orchards doing wonders to the senses of the tourists visiting here.

Once served as the British Army Cantonment, today this place is a place for the visitors to relax and refresh their soul. The enticing beauty and tranquility of the place didn’t even leave untouched Rabindranath Tagore and Narain Swamy whose ashrams are located here. There is a library dedicated to famous Hindi poet writer Mahadevi Varma, who got the idea of writing the famous story Lachma in Ramgar. An unobstructed view of the snow-capped ranges of the Himalayas from this place can be seen. The magical spell casted during the sunrise and sunset adds more charm to the town.


Ramgarh is a hill station that experiences warm summers (May-June) but very pleasant with temperature ranging from 20°C – 30°C. The winters in the area are pretty cold with temperature often dropping to 2°C. The winter season stretched from November to February and required heavy woolen clothing.

The monsoon season witnesses moderate rainfall with the surrounding all refreshed and blooming. It is best to visit Ramgarh between the months of October and May.

How to Reach

Pantnagar airport is the nearest airport, which is located about 76 km from Ramgarh. Pant Nagar Airport is well connected by metaled road with Ramgarh.

Kathgodam Railway station is the nearest railhead to Ramgarh situated at a distance of 45 km. Kathgodam is well connected by major cities of India Ramgarh being a remote destination is well connected by motor able roads with major destinations of Kumaon and cities of northern India.

Nathuakhan: Nathuakhan is a ravishing hamlet near Ramgarh at an elevation of 6,365 fts above sea level. One can enjoy nature walks, meditation or can relax in the beautiful gardens. The serenity and calmness of the surroundings of Nathuakhan is blessed with picturesque forests, lush green valleys and hilly terrains.

Mukteshwar: Mukteshwar is situated at an elevation of 2285 mts above sea level in Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. Mukteshwar got its name from a 350 year old temple Mukteshwar Dham whose presiding deity is Lord Shiva. The immaculate beauty of Mukteshwar has a lot to offer. Wake up with the chirping of birds and sun rays kissing the cliffs and enjoy short treks in the woods. Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Nandaghunti, Trishul and Panchachuli are the major peaks visible from Mukteshwar. Mukteshwar is situated 25 km from Ramgarh and is an idyllic place for leisurely holidays with pleasant weather conditions.
