Saputara is a picturesque lakeside hill station situated at an altitude of about 1000 m above the sea level. It is located in the state of Gujarat close to Maharashtra border. Enchanting waterfalls, sunrise and sunset points accentuate the beauty of the region. As per the mythological resources, Lord Ram has spent almost 11 years of exile in the forest of Saputara. Summer Season starts from the month of March and continues till the month of June. The average temperature varies within the range of 28°C to 38°C.

Monsoon Season starts in the month of July and continues till September. The place experiences humid climate condition. Saputara appears even more beautiful in the monsoon season and one can enjoy the picturesque beauty.

From the month of December to February, Saputara has extremely pleasant climate condition. Temperature lies in the range of about 8°C to 28°C.Winter season is regarded as the best season to visit Saputara.

How to Reach

Surat airport is nearest domestic airport whereas Chatrapati Shivaji airport at Mumbai is the nearest International airport. These two airports connect Saputara to all the other major cities.

Waghai railway station is the nearest railway station, which is situated at a distance of about 50 km away from Saputara city center. The other Railway stations are Nashik – 85 km, Bilimora 114 km & Igatpuri 128 km.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

Purna Sanctuary: Being a part of the dense moist deciduous forest is situated in the Western Ghat of Gujarat spreading over an area of 160 sq km. Situated at Mahal, the sanctuary is located at a point where the Purna and Gira rivers cross by it. Animals like Wild bulls, elephants, Sloth bear and rare species of plants like Dalbergia latifolia, Albizzia procera, Ougeinia oogeinensis, Mitragyna parviflora, Terminlia crenulata, Lagerstroemia parviflora are found in the region.

Vansada National Park: Spread over an area of 24 sq km, Vansda National park is actually a private forest of Maharaja of Vansada. Different species of animals like tiger, leopard, Rusty-spotted Cat, python, giant squirrel, and four-horned antelope are found in the region. Lush greenery and diverse variety of flora and fauna attracts people from all across the world.

Artist Village: Artist Village is regarded as the cultural and traditional center of the region. It is regarded as the best Saputara attraction for buying traditional as well as tribal artifacts including Warli paintings and the tribal craft objects. The place is regarded as an ideal place to learn about the culture of this region.
