Silvassa is situated in the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and is in fact its capital. The surroundings of Silvassa are enriched with Portuguese heritage and a distinctive Indo-Portuguese ethnicity. Due to such a background, many Roman-Catholic churches are there in this town. The city is renowned for the serenity of its natural surroundings especially the gardens. Silvassa is also considered to be the home of the Warli tribal culture. The Warli tribe is famous for a style of painting that is unique and beautiful.
Silvassa in Summer (March – June): Silvassa experiences hot and humid climate almost throughout the year. The temperature during summers usually touch 42°C. The day remains warm and hot whereas evenings are best to step out and explore the surroundings.
Silvassa in Monsoon (July – September): Silvassa experiences hot and humid climate during monsoon season resulting in moderate to heavy monsoons. The rains transform the region into a picturesque location but heavy downpour and torrential rains halts tourism to a great extent.
Silvassa in Winter (October – February): Winter season begins in October and lasts till February. The days are cold during mornings and evenings, whereas the afternoons are pleasant and warm. December and January are the peak winter months and the temperature during this period ranges between 29°C and 17°C.
How to Reach
The nearest airport is Mumbai’s Chatrapati Shivaji International airport which is positioned at a distance of 120 km from the city of Silvassa. The nearest railhead of the place is Vapi railway station which is just around 15 km away from the heart of Silvassa city.
Lion Safari Wildlife Park: Lion Safari Wildlife Park is a wonderful spot to carry out all kind of adventurous activities. It is stretched over 25 hectares of land in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Wildlife Sanctuary. The expedition zone has been protected and separated from the rest of the region by means of a seven meter long chain-link partition that extends up to almost 3 km in length.
Lady of Piety Church: An architectural excellence of the Portuguese era, the Lady of Piety Church, stands as one of the oldest still-existent religious sites in Silvassa. With numerous churches in the city, what renders the Lady of Piety Church different is its intricate and subtle artwork that is splashed around its interiors. The church is located just opposite to the Tribal Museum that houses the relics of the tribal past.
Hirwa Van Gardens: If you go for the literal meaning of Hirwa Van Gardens, it would mean Green Jungle Gardens. The place is not an exception to the name. It is full of man-made gardens well decorated and accompanied by the serene surroundings. This an ideal vacation spot and is situated on Silvassa-Dadra highway.
