Ziro is a town that is located in the Lower Subansiri district of the State of Arunachal Pradesh. The town is said to be one of the most beautiful and pristine towns in the country. Owing to its natural beauty Ziro is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is surrounded by paddy fields and is very rich in biodiversity with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The place is inhabited by Apatani tribe who are nature lovers and extremely helpful and hospitable people.


The best time to visit Ziro is between February to October as the summers are pleasant and cool. The place experiences extensive rainfall during monsoons and winters can be extremely cold and chilly.

How to Reach

By Air

The nearest airports are Likabali and Tezpur however it is advisable to fly to Guwahati Airport and travel to Ziro from there.

By Rail

The closest railway station is Naharlagun which is 3 hours away from Ziro. The other option is to board trains from Guwahati to Ziro. Shatabdi express runs three times a week.

By Road

Taking a taxi from Guwahati to Ziro will take you about 7 hours via NH27 or NH15.

Key attractions/Sightseeing

There is much to see and explore in Ziro.

DoloMando is a romantic point, hillock that symbolizes the love affair of Dolo and Mando. The trek to the point is really exciting and one can view the Hapoli town from one side of the peak and the old town from the other side. Daporizo, the Walls of mountains of low height, surround the green valley.

Shiva Lingam in the Kardo forest is a famous pilgrim spot for the Hindus. The height of Shiva Lingam is 25 feet and it is 22 feet in width.

Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary near Ziro is a sanctuary located in the Talley Valley. Talley is a plateau covered with dense forest of silver fir trees, bamboo and pine trees. The Pange, Sipu, Karing and Subansiri rivers flow through this Reserved Forest and Sanctuary.

Pleioblastus Simone is a bamboo species that is found only in Talley Valley. The trek to the valley from the town and the nearby villages is really exciting.

The Pine Grove in Ziro is an ideal picnic spot and a major tourist destination. The Pine trees are a major attraction of Ziro and a part of the rich vegetation of the area. Ziro is at times also referred to as the Blue Pine Ziro. So, spend time amidst lush green valleys and pine-clad hills and also soothe your eyes as you see nature in its original form.

Ziro Music festival: The Ziro music festival, a four-day outdoor event is the most happening music festival in the laps of the green valley of Arunachal Pradesh. This festival is organized by the famous Apatani tribe and it showcases the talent of independent artists.
