Nainital is the land of mountains, lakes, and beautiful blue skies. It is filled with beautiful sights to see and journeys to embark on and I was privileged enough to get a chance to visit this magnificent land. During my trip, I stayed at a homestay; it was beautiful and very well kept by its owners. The owners themselves were very hospitable and kind towards me and that showed the culture of Nainital and the people living there. Here is a guide to help you find the best places to visit in Nainital.

Places to stay in Nainital:

Nainital is a very popular tourist destination and is a must visit for people who love the mountains and lakes. Nainital offers a variety of well-situated hotels, homestays, villas, etc., and whichever one accommodates best to your needs is the one you should go for. When you are planning your tip to this picturesque destination, be assured that you can find a suitable and comfortable place to stay irrespective of your budget. The town offers luxury as well as pocket-friendly options.

Places to visit in Nainital:

The Mall Road is the best place to start your day, running parallel to Naini Lake, which is the perfect spot for boating, Mall Road is a wonderful market built during the Colonial Era. It is the perfect place to buy various types of clothes, handicrafts, and trinkets.

If you are someone who enjoys a bit more thrill and adventure, you can always try one of the several adventure sports Nainital has to offer, some of which are paragliding, trekking, rock climbing, camping, etc. Pangot is located about 15 km away from Nainital that hosts a 3-day camping trip. You can also try paragliding and enjoy the thrill of flying up in the air.

If you are looking for something more unique, you can always pay a visit to GB Pant High-altitude Zoo. It is the only High-altitude Zoo in North India, besides those in Darjeeling and Sikkim. The zoo has several endangered species of animals, like the Royal Bengal tiger, Tibetan wolves, sambar, etc. It also has a vast collection of high-altitude birds, like Kalij pheasant, Lady rose-ringed parakeet, golden pheasant, and red jungle foul.

Caving-in some mystery:

Moreover, if you want to see more of the wild side of Nainital, you should make the Eco Cave a part of your itinerary too. Eco Caves are a cluster of interconnected caves that you can travel across by walking. Six caves in the garden, Tiger cave, Panther Cave, Flying Fox cave, Squirrel cave, Bats cave, and Apes cave, are connected through the tunnel, some of which are easy to pass through, for others one will have to crawl. All these caves are lit up by dark lights and petroleum lamps, which in turn spruce up the adventure quotient.

Other places to visit around Nainital:

Bhimtal and Sattal: There are various sightseeing and places of interest in and around Nainital that can be visited with family and friends. Along with Nainital, tourists also make sure to visit Bhimtal and Sattal as they are less crowded and more peaceful than Nainital. One of the highlights of Bhimtal is the small aquarium at the center of the lake.

Sattal located very close to Bhimtal is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes and is also a very well-known tourist spot. Apart from that, there are also several parks like the National Park and the Corbett Park which are also reputed touring destinations for tourists visiting Nainital.

Food:

And last but not the least, the food! Food is one of the most important things to keep in mind when you’re going to explore a new culture and way of life. Nainital has a mix of delicious Kumaoni and Tibetan cuisines. They tickle your taste buds and give you a chance to explore the authentic flavors of Nainital.

Despite the very cool weather, Nainital has a very warm environment and a home-like feeling to it. The people, the food, it all brings a sense of comfort and fills our hearts with warmth. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway or just to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the fast-paced city life.
